The goal of this thesis is to investigate service quality metrics and develop an architecture for the measurement of these metrics in IP networks. The IP Performance Metrics (IPPM) Working Group of the IETF develops a framework and defines performance metrics for IP services, like one-way delay, one-way packet loss, and round-trip delay. Based on the IPPM work, the thesis shall investigate performance metrics for applications running on top of IP and map IP performance metrics to application metrics. The thesis shall design and prototypically implement an architecture for measuring identified metrics based on accounting data, collected in the network in a distributed manner.
