This thesis if focused on designing a component capable of metering network usage in a multi-user system, on a per-user basis. The proposed development environment is Linux, running kernel 2.6. The proposed way in solving this problem is to look how the tcp/ip stack is implemented in Linux and to design a new kernel module that performs network accounting. The resulting design shall be prototypically implemented and evaluated within a selected application.
