This project from the University of Zurich has the goal to implement, test, and operationally deploy an open source solution, where Bitcoin payments will be possible through a mobile device. The app called CoinBlesk includes a Bitcoin payment server, where the seller and the buyer will be able to handle Bitcoin payments. For the communication between the buyer and the seller NFC equipped devices will be used.
The current media attention has been collected at the "Press Releases" section.

CoinBlesk is a mobile online wallet with the unique feature to exchange Bitcoins with two-way NFC based on Google's Host Card Emulation (HCE). This allows for a new offline mode, where only one party needs to be connected to the Internet for performing the payment. Additionally, two use cases where (a) roaming users with no Internet connection abroad and where (b) a point-of-sale in areas with bad mobile Internet coverage are needed.
CoinBlesk can exchange Bitcoins with other CoinBlesk users in less than 1 second over Near Field Communications (NFC) with auto-accept. The CoinBlesk user has the possibility to instantly approve or deny a transaction. The device requirements include a Smartphone or Tablet with NFC, Android 4.4+, and the Coinblesk App.
